Established in 2009, Roots HR CIC’s vision is to improve social sector outcomes through better people management.
As a social enterprise, our social purpose is to improve the management of people within social sector workforces through the provision of our HR services and via development opportunities for their leaders and managers.
During the financial year 1st April ’22 to 31st March ’23 the Roots HR team worked with over 200 social sector employers, delivering over 4,600 hours of HR consultancy supporting them with their HR needs in what was a turbulent external environment, post-pandemic and through a cost-of-living crisis.
We continue to work in 2023/24 to enhance our pro-bono offerings. In addition to our always available resources such as:

Through profits generated in 2021/22 and in-year we were able to provide significant levels of FREE HR support into the social sector, as our infographic (left) shows.
We continue to work in 2023/24 to enhance our pro-bono offerings. In addition to our always available resources such as:
- Up to 1 hour of free HR Consultancy
- A portfolio of 27 HR factsheets
- A suite of 12 HR Toolkits, packed full of guidance, template documents and a short webinar
- Our archive of HR webinars
We have:
- Developed and delivered a webinar for Trustees on HR governance framework for their organisation (this will be running again in November so keep an eye out for more details at rootshr.org.uk)
- Over 30 delegates due to attend our free HR for social sector line managers modular programme in the Autumn and New year
- Developed blogs and guidance for the sector on a range of topics including pay and reward, artificial intelligence, employment law changes and much more!
As a team we are immensely proud of the paid and pro-bono services that we offer and the impact that we have improving people management for social sector workforces!
