Gear-up is a bike social enterprise set up by a group of unemployed young people living on the Bromford estate.
In the past year the thee lads have completed a NOCN social enterprise award, become bikeability instructors for Birmingham City Council, completed training to become lead ride instructors for British Cycling and become a British Cycling hub, delivered Sportivate rides, and raised funds to take over a shop from January 2013.
One of the lads has also just recently become a level 2 Cytech bike mechanic. Great achievements in 12 months!
Part of their work involves taking old bikes (they prefer to think of them as being pre-loved) and upcycling them before selling on to customers.
Gear Up’s stocks are running low and so we they asking for people to donate old bikes — either to the Hub on one of the days mentioned on the e-flyer or by contacting them so that they can arrange to collect bikes.
Any donation will be really appreciated.
To arrange a donation contact Gear Up on 0121 448 3739 or email Gear Up’s manager Melanie Glass at gearup<at>worthunlimited<dot>co<dot>uk
