On Monday the Guardian had a very good piece by Stuart Hall arguing that the roots of the government’s current social and economic policies lie in neoliberalism. It’s an excellent piece for anyone wishing to understand the deeper ideological ideas that lie behind the current austerity measures and the huge long-term implications these have for welfare, social provision and the role and shape of the state — issues that cannot but be of relevance to anyone involved in social enterprise.

The piece as it appeared in the Guardian was edited from a longer article called The Neoliberal Revolution, which appears in full in the latest issue of the political magazine Soundings. The longer version can be downloaded here.
