Did you know that a Private Member’s Bill which could have a significant benefit for social enterprises tendering for public sector contracts is due to be debated in the Commons next week (on Friday 19th November)?
The Bill, introduced by Chris White MP, is called the Public Services (Social Enterprise And Social Value) Bill and if passed would require public bodies to introduce social clauses into their procurement processes, thus requiring all businesses that bid to declare the social value their tender would produce. The Bill would also also require central government and each local authority to publish strategies for promoting social enterprise and consult local communities in the development of these strategies.
The Social Enterprise Coalition is asking social enterprise supporters to write to their MPs and encourage support for the Bill. You can download SEC’s template letter and press release here.
