Power to Change announces “initial grants programme” criteria

Further to this post, Power to Change, the new Big Lottery-backed fund supporting community businesses in England, has just announced that the criteria for what it is calling its first “initial grants programme”.

“The initial grants programme see will up to £9m of grants and a wide range of business support provided to around 70 organisations over the next eight months.

The programme has one aim: To help new and existing community businesses that are in a position to make a step change in their journey towards long term sustainability within the next 6 months.”

Power to Change is also seeking Expressions of Interest from organisations, including community businesses, that can play a leading role in delivering new Strategic Programmes that start in autumn 2015:

  • Inspiration Programme: To generate momentum behind community business as a tool for addressing local challenges, catalysing the creation of more community businesses;
  • Innovation & Acceleration Programme: To develop and enhance the support infrastructure available to community businesses, helping them to accelerate their impact and journey to sustainability;
  • Community Business Network: To build the community business movement and develop the network of peer to peer support to create more robust and resilient community businesses.


The closing date for expressions of interest is 31 May 2015.

It stresses, however, that this call is as part of a market consultation exercise and does not imply any subsequent contractual relationship. The ideas it gets from this exercise will be used to inform the eventual tendering process for strategic partners.  More on this here.
