LEP confirms sites and priorities of Birmingham’s Enterprise Zone

Greater Birmingham & Solihull Local Enterprise Partnership has today confirmed the sites and priorities for its Enterprise Zone proposal, one of four EZs recently given the green light by the Chancellor.

The EZ will cover 26 sites in the city centre focusing on 7 clusters that represent particular growth potential. These are:

  • Westside.
  • Snow HIll district.
  • Southern Gateway.
  • Digbeth creative cluster.
  • Birmingham Science Park Aston.
  • Jewellery Qtr.

And the economic sectors the EZ will focus on will be:

  • Business and financial services.
  • ICT.
  • Creative industries.
  • Digital media.

The EZ will enable site development, increased and extended business rates relief, promotion of inward investment and relocation opportunities, digital infrastructure and a simplified planning and change of use regime.

Read the EZ flyer here.

There will be a sequence of stakeholder meetings and briefings for those interested in or affected by the EZ, news of which will start to appear shortly on the LEP website. There are many social enterprises that will want to ensure that they stay abreast of these developments.

According to this – http://www.westsidebirmingham.co.uk/ – Westside includes the Convention Centre, Brindley Place, the Jewellery Qtr, the new library, Broad St, the Mailbox, and the new station development.

A bit disappointing that they don’t focus on the Green Economy, surely the one hope for growth.
