Wates want to do business with Social Enterprises

On the 24th March 2011 iSE organised and hosted a Meet the Buyer event on behalf of Wates Construction and Living Space.

The aim of the event was to raise awareness of potential opportunities Wates wish to sub-contract with Social Enterprises. Those opportunities included; painting of timber hoardings, general transport, Catering, signage, landscaping, timber recycling, fixtures and fittings and void property repairs.

18 Social Enterprises requested a supplier information, of which 13 forms were returned (7 were Birmingham based and the remaining 6 from West Midlands) and 30mins appointments given in order for the social enterprises to sell themselves. ‘I am delighted that 13 Social Enterprise organisations have grabbed this opportunity of a different innovative income generating stream’.

The two Wates representatives were delighted with the quality of the social enterprises and feedback from the attendees has been very positive. One attendee stated ‘I would like to thank ISE for the opportunity to meet the buyer. I think the meeting went well and if we are successful, will have a major effect on the turnover of our Social enterprise creating additional  training opportunities and work experience for more service users. This initiative demonstrates how important the work is that ISE does for social enterprises’.

Following the event Wates will be visiting a number of the social enterprises to see them in action before commissioning work and iSE will be on hand to support those organisations and Wates through the process.
