Liverpool — third sector will be ‘devastated’

The true scale and depth of the impact of the current economic and spending climate on the third sector is becoming clearer by the day. Third Sector Online reports that Liverpool council has cut its spend with the third sector by £18m. Liverpool CVS is laying-off 33 of its 59 employees. LCVS chief exec Alan Lewis says ‘We are seeing the complete devastation of the sector in Liverpool.’ Full story here.

In other news, the Charity Commission is reported as laying-off 33% of staff and moving its operations almost entirely online. It is even in doubt whether charities without adequate broadband access will be able to receive alternative provision. Full story here.
