“It’s probably the best conference food you’ve never eaten…” Richard McComb, Birmingham Post Review of Concept

Richard McComb reviews a day in the life of Concept, Action for Blind People’s social enterprise that provides employment support for blind or partially sighted people pursuing careers in the hospitality and catering industry. The article gives a real insight into the work of Concept and the way the team deliver employment opportunities to blind or partially sighted people.

The article also concentrated on the food offer, highlighting the differences to the typical corporate conference or training venue:

“I have eaten here and the experience was a world away from the limp sandwiches, Wotsits and UFOs (Unidentified Fried Objects) of the annual office blue-sky day.”

Concept’s first Pop Up “Secret Restaurant” also gets a mention:

“Concept recently ran its first pop-up restaurant night under the guise of The Secret Restaurant. Two conference rooms were converted into a dining room, with soft lighting and tablecloths, and the team delivered a four-course meal with waiter service. The June event was a sell-out and bookings are being taken for September’s “pop-up,” even though a date has not been set yet.”

In the last 12 months 8 trainees have passed through Concept’s business and of those 6 are now in full time employment with businesses across Birmingham. The Secret Restaurant is now open for customers to register interest in attending the next event on Friday 23rd September. For anyone looking to hold an event Concept has a Summer Special Offer with 1/3 off its Day Delegate rate – so everyone can try the food and save on their budget!
