Innovation — the enemy of effectiveness?

Further to this post, Vicki Fitzgerald, chief exec of Gateway Family Services, has more interesting — and challenging — thoughts in a new post on her blog…. “If we want to make cost savings, become efficient and deliver tested effective services then it’s time to stop innovating.”

I can’t help but agree. Innovation is a much abused term — almost more so than ‘reform’…

However, it is ironic that Vicki’s post should appear just days before today’s announcement — reported in Third Sector — that the DoH’s Innovation, Excellence & Strategic Development Fund has awarded £6.8m to 74 charities to design and test “innovative solutions to the big challenges we face in health, public health and social care” (as care services minister Paul Burstow put it)…
