Dept for Business, Innovation & Skills pioneers new scheme to utilise govt offices

The Dept for Business, Innovation & Skills has announced ‘Space for Growth’, a new initiative to enable small businesses, start-ups and entrepreneurs to rent under-used space in government offices for a nominal fee.

An open day to promote this and other government services for businesses is being held in Birmingham on Friday 24th January 2014 at the old DTI premises at 77 Paradise Circus Queensway. See details below. To attend RSVP by sending mail to Daniel Harris (by Wed 22/01/14).

More information about booking space under the scheme here.

I imagine Space for Growth must represent a mammoth task of co-ordination and how smoothly it can be made to work remains to be seen.  But judging by the number of emails I receive from fledgling social enterprises and voluntary groups looking for premises to operate from — sometimes just periodically — this could be an extremely useful initiative.
